Samajam Celebrating Golden Jubilee of Makaravilakku Celebrations in Singapore.
Its indeed a long journey for any organisation to mark such an occasion. Makaravilakku Celebration Committee under the auspices of Singapore Malayalee Hindu Samajam is celebrating its 50th year of makaravilakku celebrations in Singapore.
Mr.Param, who is the chairman of the current Makaravilakku Celebration Committee said that, this is remarkable milestone in the history of Singapore itself. Makaravilakku Celebrations started under the committee 50 years back, in conjunctions with festival of Makaravilakku, a hindu festival related to Lord Ayyappa, Sabarimala of Kerala State in India. Lord Ayyappan is considered as the promoter of universal brother hood. As per the tradition and belief, anybody could go and worship “Him” regardless of caste and religion, or creed. In Singapore, Makaravilakku celebration being conducted together with the members of the community whoever willing to join the celebration regardless of religious barriers, which gives a venue to bring people together and promote national integration through various activities, and events.
This year being the 50th Year of celebration, the committee has decided to celebrate in a bigger way, Starting with religious discourse of Dr. Narayanji about the myths of Ayyappan on September 2nd to September 5th at Multi Purpose Hall of Sri Sivan Temple. This years attractions would include a poojas and rituals by Sabarimala Tantri and Melsanthi ( Chief Priest) at Sri Vairavimada Kaliyamman Temple, Toa Payoh.
